Diazepam (Easium) 10 mg: Uses, Dosage & Safety Information
Description
Easium 10 mg is a prescription-only benzodiazepine containing Diazepam. It is used for short-term management of anxiety, agitation, and fear. It may also be prescribed for alcohol withdrawal symptoms, seizure disorders, febrile convulsions, and muscle relaxation. In clinical settings, it is sometimes used for preoperative sedation and short-term insomnia.
How It Works
Diazepam enhances GABA activity in the brain, suppressing excessive neuronal stimulation. This reduces anxiety, muscle spasms, and seizure activity, producing calming, muscle-relaxant, and anticonvulsant effects.
Dosage
Dosage depends on the condition, patient age, and medical history. Adults are usually prescribed 2 mg to 10 mg, taken one to four times daily as directed. Never increase the dose or duration without medical guidance.
Special Considerations
Easium may cause sedation, reduced alertness, and impaired coordination. Avoid alcohol, opioids, and other sedatives while taking this medication. Elderly patients and those with liver, kidney, or respiratory issues require extra caution.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Diazepam is generally not recommended during pregnancy, particularly in the first and third trimesters. It may cause neonatal withdrawal or breathing difficulties. Since the drug passes into breast milk, breastfeeding should be avoided unless medically advised.
Side Effects
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, and muscle weakness. Serious reactions may include confusion, memory issues, mood changes, or breathing difficulties. Long-term use may lead to dependence and withdrawal symptoms.
Overdose Warning
Overdose may cause extreme drowsiness, confusion, unconsciousness, or coma. Risk increases when combined with alcohol or sedative drugs. Seek immediate medical attention if an overdose is suspected.
Storage Instructions
Store at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep securely out of reach of children and pets. Do not use beyond the expiry date.
