Diazepam (Sedil) 5 mg: Uses, Dosage & Safety Information
Description
Sedil 5 mg provides fast relief from anxiety, stress, and muscle tension. It is also used to manage short-term sleep difficulties and alcohol withdrawal. The medication is intended for short-term use only and is not a long-term solution for anxiety disorders.
How It Works
Sedil increases GABA activity in the brain, calming overactive nerves, relaxing muscles, and reducing anxiety. This slows brain activity, helping the body and mind return to a calmer state.
Recommended Dosage
Typical adult doses range from 2–5 mg, 1–4 times daily. Any dose changes should be supervised by a healthcare professional. Sudden increases or abrupt discontinuation can cause dependence or withdrawal symptoms.
Special Considerations
Elderly patients and those with liver or kidney problems should exercise caution. Sedil is not suitable for children under 18. Dose reduction may be required to avoid excessive sedation or confusion.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Use during pregnancy or breastfeeding is not recommended unless specifically advised by a doctor. Exposure may cause withdrawal symptoms in newborns or sedation in infants.
Side Effects
Common side effects include sleepiness, dizziness, and memory issues. Most effects decrease with continued use. Avoid driving or operating machinery until you know how the medication affects you.
Overdose Warning
Excessive use may lead to extreme drowsiness, slowed breathing, or unconsciousness. Seek emergency medical attention immediately. Risk is higher if combined with alcohol or other sedatives.
Storage Instructions
Store in original packaging, below 30°C, away from moisture, sunlight, and children. Do not use after the expiry date printed on the pack.
