Description
Easium 10 mg is a prescription-only benzodiazepine containing diazepam, used for short-term management of anxiety, agitation, and fear. It is also prescribed for alcohol withdrawal symptoms, seizure conditions, febrile convulsions, and muscle relaxation. In clinical practice, it may be used for preoperative sedation and short-term insomnia treatment.
How It Works
Diazepam acts by enhancing GABA activity, which helps suppress excessive brain stimulation. This reduces anxiety, muscle spasms, and seizure activity. The medication produces calming, muscle-relaxant, and anticonvulsant effects.
Dosage
The dose is determined by the treated condition, patient age, and medical history. Adults are usually prescribed between 2 mg and 10 mg, taken one to four times daily as directed. Increasing the dose or duration without guidance can be harmful.
Special Considerations
This medicine may cause sedation, reduced alertness, and impaired coordination. Alcohol, opioids, and other sedatives should be avoided. Elderly patients and those with liver, kidney, or respiratory disorders need special caution.
Pregnancy and Breastfeeding
Diazepam is generally not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the first and third trimesters. It may cause neonatal withdrawal or breathing difficulties. As it passes into breast milk, breastfeeding should be avoided unless advised by a doctor.
Side Effects
Common side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, and muscle weakness. Serious side effects may include confusion, memory problems, mood changes, and breathing difficulties. Long-term use may result in dependence and withdrawal symptoms.
Overdose Warning
Overdose may cause extreme drowsiness, confusion, loss of consciousness, or coma. The risk increases significantly when combined with alcohol or sedative drugs. Immediate medical help is required if an overdose is suspected.
Storage
Store Easium at room temperature, away from heat, moisture, and direct sunlight. Keep it securely out of reach of children and animals. Do not use beyond the expiry date.
