Description
Noctin (Nitrazepam) 5 mg is a benzodiazepine indicated for insomnia, restlessness, and certain seizure disorders. It is prescribed only for short-term management under close medical supervision. The medicine is intended exclusively for short-term therapeutic use.
How It Works
Nitrazepam enhances GABA activity, a neurotransmitter responsible for slowing brain processes. This calming effect aids sleep and suppresses abnormal nerve activity. As a result, it helps initiate sleep and improve sleep maintenance.
Dosage
Adults generally take 5–10 mg at bedtime, while elderly or weak patients start at 2.5–5 mg. A doctor must determine dosage and duration to limit dependence risk. Treatment should be brief to prevent dependence.
Side Effects
Typical side effects include drowsiness, dizziness, tiredness, and poor coordination. Improper or prolonged use may lead to dependence, confusion, or memory impairment. Long-term or high-dose use heightens tolerance and dependence risk.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Not recommended during pregnancy, especially during the first trimester, due to fetal risk. Nitrazepam is present in breast milk, so breastfeeding should be avoided. Use in late pregnancy may trigger withdrawal in newborns.
Storage
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry area protected from direct light. Keep the product in its original packaging to guard against moisture. Store safely away from children.
UK Regulation
Nitrazepam is regulated as a Prescription Only Medicine (POM) in the UK. It is classified as a Class C controlled drug under the Misuse of Drugs Act. Legal supply requires a valid medical prescription.
